Second National Table Tennis Title

by Sean Doyle
  • Garnock Valley Under 13's
  • Winner Rebecca Plaistow with Charles Brown

An early start for 5 Garnock Valley players as they made their way to Tranent for the Minor (Under 13) Assessment. Two boys, Jack Fowler & Owen McKinney and three girls, Rebecca Melrose, Elisha Masini & Rebecca Plaistow all competed in this the penultimate ranking tournament for the season. The boys immediately experienced the high level of play, struggling against players with more power, speed and consistency. At the end of group play found themselves playing for the last 4 places.

The girls had a varied day between them with Elisha nearly achieving her first macth win in a national tournament narrowly losing 9-11 in the 5th. Rebecca Melrose competed well against every opponent with all her matches going to 4 or 5 games but she could only convert 40% to wins missing out on a top six placing. Rebecca Plaistow was surprisingly only seeded 4th which seemed strange considering her recent form. In her usual manor of not letting anything bother her, Rebecca soon set to task with her closest game of the day being a 5 game match against second seed Emma Rhind of South Glasgow. Rebecca continued her winning success in the afternoon session completing another tournament undefeated.
