New Garnock Academy to be Built
Scottish Government funding will result in the building of a new Garnock Academy.
North Ayrshire Council will fund one-third of the cost of the capital project while the Scottish Government will provide the remaining bulk of it.
Carol Kirk, Corporate Director (Educational Services) said: "We welcome this opportunity to support our continued investment in the school estate and will ensure this new building will result in a learning environment fit for the 21st century."
John Bell, Chair of North Ayrshire Council's Education Executive added: "We are pleased to finally have Scottish Government support to continue the Council's school rebuilding programme.
"It's especially heartening to be able to guarantee Garnock Academy pupils access to the high standards of facilities already enjoyed in other newer schools throughout North Ayrshire."
The funding is part of the Government's £1.25bn school building programme. A further 13 schools throughout Scotland shared in the announcement.
Education Secretary Fiona Hyslop said: "Working in partnership with COSLA and local authorities we can deliver better school accommodation the length and breadth of Scotland and ensure our school estate is fit for the delivery of Curriculum for Excellence."
- Really good news...if this is true. Let us all in the valley now convince the councillors and officials alike the one and only CENTRAL location, complete with all the sports fields and away from a town centre is the Old Spiers School grounds in Beith. Set in a real rural environment, the location is THE ideal site in the valley.
