New council houses in Largs Road

by david gibson
Who do you need to know to get one of the new council houses in Largs Road, why is it that some people can sell their ex-council house for £70000 and walk straight into a new house, while others have to wait for ever. My son and his wife have had their name down for 5 years, are overcrowded and was told to look for a private let.

Don't start me I am overcrowded there are 5 of us two bedrooms, and we didn't get one but I know someone who sold his house made himself homeless and the DSS paid his private let, and he got a new house bloody joke typical of housing associations.

You need to know someone in the housing office mainly it's ridiculous a single man I know who has split with his partner has been offered a 2 bedroom even though he co owns the house they share. The best advice from experience is phone the housing office and tell them you're interested in the houses or any house then phone again and again may sound time consuming but it works honestly. If there are 5 of u in a 2 bedroom u should have more points than most phone and pop in as much as you can pestering them really does pay off.

I have tried that I even called the cunninghame housing association several times but still no offer. I also know of several couples who have stated to the council they have separated and they require an other house so the kids can come and stay and then they get back together and move in to their new house all happy families and 9 times out of 10 they keep the other house...just in case!!! It is pointless contacting the local mp's as they do absolutely nothing for you other than spending our money on their expenses, I have refused to vote for the last 3 years and they get their answer when they come to the door trying to get my vote or when they appear on voting night to see if I am going to vote!!!

elzabeth benivon says

i dont vote either its a joke , i pestered them a few years ago and it did work although it mite of been pot luck , its ridiculous there point system it seems to only work for those that are lying about there situations although i wish they would give us all some tips into how they manage to get a council house it seems to be a mystery.

Let's all call and question how they have allocated these properties one of the members of the community council owns his own home has put his up for sale and was allocated a bungalow type house shocking but when you know how to work the system it works.

bobby brown says

You know what they say you can't please everybody, Elizabeth you are right keep phoning the housing office and tell them about empty houses that have become available and that you are interested, if you are up at the top of the list then you will get an offer.

Speak to your local councillor Anthea Dickson was very helpful in my case and help set up a meeting with Morag Cooper that way you are letting them know you have a powerful friend who can look at the housing list on your behalf and make sure your not overlooked, the biggest problem with the housing stock in Kilbirnie is that homeless people can come in from anywhere and they are given priority.

Also Steven if there are five of you living in a two bedroom house, then you are overcrowded and will get more points but if you OWN your own home you must sell that first or just wait until a house is offered and that can take some time, everybody' s circumstances are different and don't always believe what you hear the authorities aren't stupid and believe you me they don't pay people's private rent unless they provide proof of income bank statements and sign a legal form in which case makes them liable to prosecution if they are found to be lying and hiding any money or benefits that they have not declared.

My oh my, this is a hot topic, would you see the people of Beith or Dalry going on the way you lot are acting, anybody who got a house up the Largs Road got it on merit, so just leave it at that, the council are planning to build lots of more houses in the area anyway, so get yourself on the council list and as that other guy said, work with your local councillor it's in their best interest to help you out, they can't get you a house but they sure as hell will make sure there's no queue jumping.

john bhoy says

I live in that new estate and i can see why people are keen to move in,the houses are beautiful, large, spacious and have two toilets, huge kitchen private parking and there will also be a small playpark for the kids who live there.

ut let me just say everybody who got one of these houses waited just the same as everybody else and were allocated their house on points not by who you know or any old cobblers like that.

This is sour grapes on some people's part and they hate to see anybody getting on.

Irvin Clifford says

Definitely a hot topic this one, want to make a comment about the post from Tommy Burns.

Yes NAC are putting forward planning "proposals" for more houses within the Garnock Valley not just Kilbirnie but the time scale is from 2015 till 2025, not much use for anyone waiting for housing just now, and with the financial climate that is affecting all councils budgets that timescale is likely to be pushed back further.

It could be another 20 years before we get any large scale council housing developments here in Kilbirnie, that said got to agree with Bobby Brown get onto NAC's case use your local councillors to help your application for housing.

Tom Leech says

What a load of nonsense , I have waited 6 years there is 7 of us in a council 3apt , We had 100 points , we were not allocated one of those houses , and we work for a council , granted it isn't Ayrshire Council but it is still a council .

It is a case of if your face fits and who you know , We are a pleasent family , have done nothing but keep NAC property to a high standard better than they gave us it in .

Katy Clark's (office) had a visit from myself over 1 year ago , when they advised em that they would push the council to re-home us and " Katy Clark " still hasn't even bothered to contact us let alone the council .

The whole re-housing system needs a shake up and that in CHS and NAC both are a serious let down to hard working families but seems to always find a new property for those who suddenly have to leave their homes for one reason or another ...

samantha price says

You don't need yo know anybody to get one on these houses. Why are people so bitter about people having a start in life some people should go and get a life.

The spiteful people on here is unbelievable - good luck to the people in these houses and may you all have many happy years in your NEW HOMES.

I'm marries with 2 kids stay in the milton and im not bitter about it at all.

Tenant of a Largs road house says

I would just like to say me, my partner and my new born son have just moved in to one of the new houses up largs road and we are so grateful! As it is more than we could have ever expected. Although i do feel a tad guilty as my sister lives in what might as well be a two bedroomed house and there are 6 of them (5 of them girls as well) but they are very happy and are very happy for us to be given this oppurtunity. I can assure you that we have no contacts within the council and really were in need of a home as we could no longer afford the rent on our flat with a baby on the way even though we both work. Which resulted in us bombarding my mum and taking it in turns at sleeping on the couch. I dont however agree with there so called people that are selling there houses and then getting allocated one this is ust not fair to those that actually do need a home. I also think its unfair the amount of people in kilbirnie that are living in 2/3 bedroomed houses and its just themselves i think there should be a system where people are given adequate homes that they would want to live in instead of the daunting prospect of a 'granny flat'

Tenant of a Largs road house says

An idea why dont the council give people the oppertunity to covert there lofts into an extra bedroom it would be cheaper than building a new house?! Im sure alot of people would like to stay in there original homes but with a soultion for extra space.

Tom Leech says

TO THE PERSON WHO SAID CONVERTS LOFTS ! tHAT IS WHAT WE ASKED WRE WERE DENIED PERMISSION TO DO IT OURSELVES AND WE WERE DENIED THE RIGHT TO THE COUNCIL DOING IT FOR US,APPARENTLY SOUTH AYRSHIRE WOULD DO IT BUT NEVER NORTH AYRSHIRE!!!!
