25/8/2008Goodwin genealogy inquiry from the US
I am looking for any local information of the families of my great, great grandparents, James Goodwin (born in Kilbirnie in 1847, son of Thomas Goodwin, Jr. and Jean Dorlie (or Dock/Doak/Deak)?) Goodwin) and Henrietta Matthie Goodwin (born in Kilbirnie in 1848, daughter of Robert Matthie and Jane Campbell).
"James and Henrietta were wed 7 September 1866 in Dennyholm, Kilbirnie, Ayrshire, Scotland and then followed his father (Thomas) and uncles to Pennsylvania in the late 1860's where he fathered 10 children," one of whom was my great maternal grandmother, Agnes Elizabeth Goodwin, who lived to be almost 100 years old.
James Goodwin's father, "Thomas Jr. and Jean started their family in Kilbirnie and probably followed his brothers, James and John Sr., to the United States in the late 1860s. They settled for a short while in Pennsylvania, probably in Schuylkill County, but Thomas and Jean returned to Kilbirnie, leaving their children to carry on the GOODWIN line in Pennsylvania."
(Material in quotations is from http://www.geocities.com/heartland/Hills/7640/index.html)
I am hoping to have the opportunity to visit Kilbirnie later this year and am curious to know if the Goodwin home on Dennyholm Wynd still stands, and if there are local relatives who would be interested in meeting and sharing stories. I may be reached at Barbara@cbponline.org.
With gratitude,
