Do you know what happened to the missing salt bin in Kilbirnie?

A total of eight salt bins have gone missing in North Ayrshire since last week. Seven were taken from the Stevenston area last week and one from Kilbirnie over the weekend.
The bins come in small and large sizes with the smaller bin holding 200 litres of salt and costing around £90. The larger version holds 400 litres of salt and costs around £120. The smaller bins would need at least two men to remove it when full, according to North Ayrshire Council Roads officials.
Strathclyde Police are aware of the thefts and would like any member of the public who noticed anything suspicious to contact them.
A council spokesman said some of the bins had been replaced with heaps of sand/grit mixture and that all bins were currently being replenished with the same mixture in order to preserve scarce salt supplies.
"We have had so many requests for additional grit bins at the moment that we can't meet demand," he said.
Meanwhile more than 150 Council Grounds Maintenance staff, contractors, and individuals sentenced to community service were out clearing main thoroughfares and footpaths at the weekend. Staff will also attempt to clear slush from pavements over the next few days.
However, the spokesman added: "Although there will be a slight thaw this week temperatures are still expected to be around minus one which means pavements may still be icy and care should be taken when walking."
