Hi David,
I remember two storms the winter snow blizzard around 1962 - walking in snow up to my knees.
Then a storm that flattened the Fireman's hut just down the road from Dunnning's Shop. The same storm tore the Gable end from a house just off the bottom of Mossend Drive (one of those short streets that take you to the park). I think that was 1967 though?
HI JOHN. I REMEMBER THE HOUSE IN MOSSEND DRIVE I THINK IT WAS THE GUTHRIES WHO STAYED THERE , I WAS STAYING IN SERSLEY DRIVE AT THE TIME, IF IT WAS 1967 I WOULD HAVE BEEN AGED 7 BACK THEN. THAT WAS SOME NIGHT OF WINDS , STILL REMEMBER BEING SO SCARED.
Hi David and big bro ,,,,I too...mum and dad slept in the living room the outside wall was moving.....great times when it snowed,,igloos made with was it wooden seed boxes...and making a row of snowmen across the roads....sledgin doon the park....x....
Hello lads,
It was 1967 and I was Richardson's paperboy in that area of the Fudstone. I remember that morning very well, by the time I reached Mossend Avenue, the gable was already blown out of Number 44. Garden huts were down in every street of my round and almost every aerial was hanging off the chimneystacks.
A wee correction David, the Guthries lived at 36 Newhouse Drive and their gable was also blown out. I lived at the opposite end of that block (number 42). As far as I can remember, nobody was hurt. One last thing, I completed my paper run, was late for school and that slave driver, Jim Richardson gave me a row because some people complained that their papers were late. My pay was £1 a week. ‘Come the Revolution’.
yes i remember it well,i was a wee boy at Ladyland school ,there was a church at the tap o the Largs road across from the school had its steeple blown off. i was 12 at the time, just waiting to go to Central school, thats another story ,lol.
Not the storm of 1967, but the snow and freeze of 1962/63 saw us start sledging through the public park around Christmas and we were still doing it at Easter. The Council had to remove all the summer seats to reduce collisons with our sledges. Broken toes, ankles, arms etc were common. You could start off in Ladysmith Road/Hagthorn Avenue and sledge right through the park to the public toilets in Holmhead. It never happened again because they always gritted the public park paths every time it snowed afterwards!
I remember being woken up by my cousin Morag Lindsay, and driven down to where the Hebron Hall is in Glengarnock, and the Garnock River was up to the top of the brick dyke, now that I think of it, it was pretty stupid to even get that close, the wall could easily have collapsed, and we would have been in big trouble, and me in my pyjamas too, lol. I lived up at 18 Camphill Drive at that time, beside Jim Kerr and his sisters Janet Katherine and Suzanne. those were the good old days. Elspeth Horne. If there is anyone out there who remembers me, and would like to chat, my e-mail is paso45@live.com
Hi David
I know you posted your comment some time ago about the storm in 1963-64 but I've just read it. You certainly are showing your age. I'm older than you and I really don't remember it. Mind you my memory isn't that great at the best of times. I can say it's down to my age now but back then I must've been either sleeping or out of the country lol. By the way, you havn't changed a bit.

Your memory of a local character or a school photo from the last ten years can be just as interesting as wars and Victorians.
