That's right Archie all the boys and girls had to line up for an inspetion every mornig, if you were nice and clean she dabbed some scent on your hankie. Of course guys like myself and wee Rab Rabold never had a hankie so we used our sleeves to wipe our nose, so the only scent we got was sent home for mis-behaving it was only the teachers pets that got the scent were you a teachers pet? Do you remember her husband old Joe Wylie? when he gave you the belt you knew that you got it

Archie/Daniel,

I remember Maam Wylie well and getting the scent on your hanky!! As well as Joe there daughter Isobel who I think went on to teach there as well. What team were you both in, Moorpark or Place?? I was Moorpark which of course was the best.

Good days indeed.

To all you guys who remember Mam and Joe , yep, I can still see us all standing in a line at the start of the class,, hands held out.. hankies at the ready and teeth at the present!!  If you passed muster then your hankie was given a good dollop of Mam's scent.I think maybe that Joe had given her it as a Chrissy pres. and this was her revenge!!  Mam must have had a long career at Ladyland, as the time I am remembering is 1955-56, and I think now that Mam was just one of the old breed of teachers who did their best for "their weans" . I still have good memories of Mam and all the rest of the staff. Remember Miss Williamson or as she later became Mrs. Lang? Mary you were what all teachers should be today..Now ,before I go. the daughter Isobel, did she not become a phamisist and run the chemist shop across from the Medical Centre?  And oh yes , well remember the Plantin and making slides before the Jannie scattered the ashes from the boilerhouse on  them. I think his name was Mr. King.

Archie McMillan says

Yes Mrs Lang was a realy nice person,i remember falling off a tree in the plantin,i dislocated my left shoulder.

Mrs Lang new my family circumstances and thought nothing of driving me up to Paisley infirmary.

Those sort of people stay in your mind always.

Have your say...

Memories, Nostalgia & History

History doesn't have to be in black & white

Your memory of a local character or a school photo from the last ten years can be just as interesting as wars and Victorians.
