Kilbirnie (Gaelic: Cille Bhraonaidh) sits on the River Garnock in North Ayrshire, just 20 miles from Glasgow and Ayr. The Auld Kirk was built here in the 15th century on the site of a sixth century monastic cell and is one of the oldest churches still in use. Glengarnock Castle is nearby, Kilbirnie Loch is home to several different fish and bird species, and Glengarnock Steel Works opened its blast furnaces around 1841. The Radio City Association has redeveloped the former Art Deco Radio City Cinema into a Healthy Living Centre. The close-knit Garnock Valley community of Kilbirnie has around 7500 people and s1kilbirnie.com has been developed to allow residents to share their news, views and opinions, make announcements, publicise events and show off their photos and videos.
